THE SIBLING BROTHERS, Page Brownton and Mark Varner, play old time country duets that were very popular in the 20's and 30's. We are inspired by and draw material from the Monroe Brothers, the Stanley Brothers and the Blue Sky Boys. We also perform our own original songs, as well as contemporary tunes written by such artists as Greg Brown and the Tashians in the style of the old time brother duet acts.

Mark Varner, a familiar face in bluegrass festival parking lots, plays mandolin and sings and has played with several local bluegrass bands; his bluegrass program, The Old Dusty Trail, is conveyed to his vast audio radiance every Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 PM on KAZU 90.3 FM, Pacific Grove..

Page Brownton, a familiar mustache on the Santa Cruz bluegrass-old timey scene, plays guitar and sings. A native of the San Francisco Bay area and a veteran of the sixties folk revival, Page Brownton studied the guitar with folk music pioneer Rolf Cahn, and was a professional guitar teacher himself for 25 years. He shared the stage with such eminent former folkies as Jerry Garcia, Pig Pen, Jorma Kaukonen, Paul Kantner, Country Joe McDonald, and David Nelson. In 1962 and 1963 he was president of the San Jose State College Folk Music Club, and produced a series of memorable concerts showcasing American ethnic musicians and blues artists, and was a member of The Fort Mudge Ramblers, 1964/1967, San Jose’s first old-timey band.
